Main Editing window redesign
In this mockup I've adjusted and rearranged some of the major UI components to see if we can better utilize space within the browser window:
- The effects navigator is reimagined as a horizontal control at the top of the window. This takes up less space and allows the canvas to accomodate larger full-frame photos in either landscape or portrait orientation. One caveat is that adding additional effects or categories would necessitate the elongation of the the navigator or the use of scrollbars.
- I moved the Zoom controls to a pop-up tab in the lower right corner. When minimized the thumbnail would not be seen; just the Zoom tab would appear. When opened, users could navigate the current photo by dragging the preview frame around the thumbnail (cursor turns to a hand when over the preview frame) or by dragging out a new preview frame over the thumbnail (cursor turns to a + when outside the preview frame). The + and - buttons below would increase or decrease the zoom factor by a specific amount. The center button would set the photo to auto-resize within the current canvas.
- The Undo/Redo controls are also in a pop-up tab titled "Original" at the lower left of the window. Opening the tab shows a thumbnail of the original photo and a sub-menu of thumbnails for each undo state. See the Show Original, Revert and Undo/Redo States page for an interactive mockup of this.
